What the sky weighs

The rules for this

The rule here is the oldest in the book: plant on a waxing Moon so it grows with the Moon. The engine also favors the Moon in a fixed sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius) for things meant to last, Mars's day, Tuesday, for building, and the Moon applying to Venus or Jupiter.

Against it: a waning Moon, which is for finishing; the dark of the Moon, which is for planning; the void-of-course Moon, when nothing started comes to much; Mars retrograde; and the Moon applying to Saturn, which is delay, or to Mars, which is breakage.

With your rising sign, the house the Moon is in that day counts too.

Decide at the new Moon, and start in the week after it.

Every rule that can fire, with its source

  • -3 The Moon makes no more contacts before it leaves its sign. Matters started now tend to drift, and little comes of them. While this rule fires, the best a moment can be is mixed, whatever else is in its favor. Rest is the exception: the void favors it.Source: William Lilly, Christian Astrology (1647); concept from Sahl ibn Bishr, On Elections, trans. Benjamin Dykes (2008)
  • +2 The Moon is increasing in light, the classical window for beginnings meant to grow.Source: Dorotheus of Sidon, Carmen Astrologicum Book V, trans. Benjamin Dykes (2017)
  • -1 The Moon is dark and its light is at its weakest. Plan and prepare in private, and announce after the new Moon.Source: Hephaistio of Thebes, Apotelesmatics Book III, trans. Benjamin Dykes (2013)
  • +1 Moon in a fixed sign: what you start now tends to stick. Choose it for what should last.Source: Dorotheus of Sidon, Carmen Astrologicum Book V, trans. Benjamin Dykes (2017)
  • +2 The Moon's next exact aspect is a soft one, a sextile or a trine, to Venus or Jupiter. The old lists read that as help arriving before the matter is done.Source: Sahl ibn Bishr, On Elections, trans. Benjamin Dykes (2008)
  • -2 The Moon's next exact aspect is a hard one, a conjunction, a square or an opposition, to Mars or Saturn. The old lists read that as delay or a fight before the matter is done.Source: Sahl ibn Bishr, On Elections, trans. Benjamin Dykes (2008)
  • -1 Mars retrograde: force applied now backfires more easily. It is a better time for planning than for pushing.Source: Hephaistio of Thebes, Apotelesmatics Book III, trans. Benjamin Dykes (2013)
  • +1 Today's planetary ruler favors this kind of action (Sun-Sunday: visibility; Moon-Monday: home and gathering; Mars-Tuesday: contest and effort; Mercury-Wednesday: contracts and messages; Jupiter-Thursday: growth and asking; Venus-Friday: partnership; Saturn-Saturday: endings and structure).Source: Picatrix (Ghayat al-Hakim) Book I, trans. Dan Attrell & David Porreca (2019)
  • -1 The Moon is decreasing in light. What is started now has less behind it; the waning Moon is for finishing.Source: Dorotheus of Sidon, Carmen Astrologicum Book V, trans. Benjamin Dykes (2017)

For a business

How owners use it

Founding the company, starting the project, breaking ground, the first day of a new habit for the team. This is the action the business planner in Rhythm is built around: the new Moon as the start of a cycle and the full Moon as its review.

Rhythm for Business plans the quarter around these windows: the new moon as the start of a cycle, the full moon as its review, and the clear windows for the decisions that matter. Open Rhythm for Business.
